KOALA T CARE DAYCARE PROGRAMS:

All of our programs are based on:

EMERGENT CURRICULUM (programming that is based upon the children's interest vs teacher directed. Teachers programming evolves as the week progresses, and the children's interests change).

Infant Program: Birth-18months (maximum 10 infants, ratio is 1 teacher: 3 infants)

The infant classroom is full of sensory based learning, with lots of hands on experiences of touch, taste, smell, and visual stimulation. The infants enjoy a fun filled day of play, while learning the everyday milestones such as sitting up, crawling ,walking, standing, fine motor control (pincer grasp), as well as cause and effect. The infant programs daily schedule follows the individual child needs, and our staff assists the infants in mastering those very important milestones, along with establishing close relationships that foster social and emotional development and growth.

Toddler Program: 18 months- 2 1/2 years (maximum 15 toddlers, ratio is 1 teacher: 5 toddlers)

The toddler classroom is full of energy and curiosity. They are continuously building upon their communication language and literacy skills-using simple sentences, increasing their vocabulary through daily interactions with peers and staff. Toddlers enjoy interacting during "circle time" and they work individually throughout the day with staff to learn cognitive skills such: counting, sorting, classifying, learning colours, shapes and labeling familiar objects, people and places. Toddlers learn through play best, and like to observe and imitate their peers. Staff develop their daily program based on the interests of each toddler and help in promoting pro-social skills such as sharing and co-operation with their peers, along with self-help skills- dressing self, eating and using utensils independently.

Preschool Program: 2 1/2 years-5 years (maximum 16 preschoolers, ratio is 1 teacher: 8 preschoolers).
The preschool classroom is full of exploring, and everyday learning. The preschool room has a daily schedule that allows them to get in a regular routine. They interact with their peers throughout the day, and are starting to establish close relationships and friendships. They learn to master skills through the use of our "handwriting without tears" program, and "Jolly Phonics". They are learning to count, letter recognition, letter sounds, classifying and sorting, and patterning. They are also working to enhance gross motor-mastering balance, coordination and fine motor skills-proper pencil grasps, manipulating puzzles, and everyday self-help skills such as doing up zippers and buttons. Sensory exploration/science,...crafts..etc.

Jk/Sk Program: 3.5-6 years (maximum 10 children, ratio is 1 teacher: 10 children). The Jk/Sk program is a busy learning environment. They are learning to build upon their knowledge of the basic handwriting without tears and jolly phonics learned in the preschool room. After mastering all the letters and their sounds, the jk/sk's begin to write and read small sight words. ( me, at, the, is, and, to, be, ), and how to write their own first name. They also learn to further their counting skills to 20, rote counting and number recognition. They continue to learn basic mathematic terms and skills in everyday learning-measuring, time, and patterning. Science is taught indoors and outdoors in following the children's interests in the world and natural settings around them. (weather, bugs, colour mixing, light, sounds). Becoming more independent.

School Age-before and After school -Children join us for a morning snack before getting ready to get on the bus to school. After school they have an afternoon snack, work on some of their homework, and they interact and play with their peers. Doing such activities as crafts, board games, computer games, outdoor sports/games, science experiments. The children also get a chance to visit the other classrooms to assist in mentoring the younger children, and become a "helper" or a short visit with their siblings.

School Age Summer Camp-They children enjoy a variety of themed weeks throughout the summer. Activities such as swimming, baking/cooking, walks to the park, outdoor sports activities, all are part of the program every week. Most of the day in spent outdoors doing fun activities.

Outdoor Learning: French is taught in the preschool and jk/sk classrooms on Tuesdays and Thursday mornings. The children learn basic words and songs, as they're introduced to French as a second language.
